SILVER
We all know about silver which could be wear together with every outfits. silver is cheaper than gold but yet everyone agree they are equally attractive. we will try to give more details on silver. Silver was discovered after gold and copper about 4000 BC, when it was used in jewelry and as a medium of exchange. It has long been valued as a precious metal and used in currency, ornaments and jewelry, as well as utensils. Silver is a very ductile and malleable (slightly harder than gold). It all started from the fine silver, which is 99.9% silver or better. This grade is used to make bars for international trading, just like gold does.
This fine silver is too soft for jewerly or other items use so it's mixed with other metals to make it more durable. The purpose of mixing the metals is to get the hardness we wanted yet still soft enough to create items into the shapes and sizes we wanted. It is soft enough to allow you do some twists or whatever style you wanted but yet it is still strong enough to be use and not broken.
Silver is affordable. Over the last 100 years the price of silver and the gold/silver price ratio has fluctuated greatly due to competing industrial and store of value demands. Silver is currently about 1/50th the price of gold by mass, and approximately 70 times more valuable than copper.
Over a period of time and because of some reasons such as swimming, sweating, perfume or other chemical spray, silver will tarnish. It also tarnish when it is exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulfide, or air containing sulfur. It is mostly because the copper on the silver. It requires frequent cleaning using anti-tarnish polishes or even toothpaste with a regular cloth. You could also ultrasonic cleaner which use high frequency to waves dirt and grime. After the cleaning process, your silver will be back to the same bright silver. Store your sterling silver jewelry in tarnish prevention cloths or bags. The treated cloth slows down the tarnishing process and keeps the jewelry from rubbing against harder jewelry that can scratch it. Try to to keep your silver jewelry in a cool, dry place.
SILVER BEADS
With amount of effort, time and skills, we got our silver beads. Some manufacturer use machine or casting, and some is handmade. Handcrafted silver needs more patience and high skill more.
Silver beads have some range of finishing: dull, bright, oxidized or even vermeil with gold. The complete range components such as toggles, findings, headpins, connectors, jumprings, clasps, charms, chains are designed to complete the silver beads to maximize the look.
Silver beads come in all sizes, ranging from smallest 2mm to large focal beads. The details of design can be very unique and ethnic.
Silver beads also have some variety in finishing process. Most popular is in vermeil. Vermeil is gold plating. The inside is silver but the outside has a gold coating. But vermeil will darken and maybe wear off over time since the silver will tarnish underneath the plating.
BALI SILVER
Bali is a small island in Indonesia. Bali beads are silver beads which produced in Bali, Indonesia. Certain community in Celuk, Bali are specialize themselves as silversmith from generations. They are highly skilled silversmith known for their granulation and wirework decoration. they are use very simple tools and made silver entirely by hand. They mixed the fine pure silver, mixing with copper and the metals will melt when they heated with a torch. After that, the silver will be poured into a mold to create a sheet or a wire. After that the silver is cut into different shapes and sizes. After it is formed, they will be cleaned by a solution and dipped into an oxidixing solution which fills the silver with a dark colour and highlight the images on a bead.
A limited amount of Bali silver is made by casting because some models and designs are just tend to be made by casting and not handmade. Some of designs also needs both hand skill and casting proces.
After all, Bali beads have a unique design and intricate detail, far more superior in quality too.
THAI SILVER
Thai hill tribe silver is less not tarnishing since there is a little or no copper in thai silver. It is also softer than Bali silver but since it contains less copper, it is softer and easier to shape. But require special care in storing to avoid tiny pieces crushed or bent.
Most popular Thai silver comes from the Hill Tribes, northern Thailand. It is around Golden Triangle region of Northern Thailand, Burma, and Laos. There are around 20 distinct tribes, including Akha, Iumien, Lisu, Karen are all hill tribe groups in Thailand. But most popular of their silverwork is made by Karen Hill Tribes people.
The method in production is made by hammering, or sculpted into shapes which is different from Bali silver production. After melting down the silver with torches, they will pour into the mould and do the shaped by tapping. Hill Tribe silver are also handmade and sometimes using a little or no machinery. Their designs are classic or contemporary or ethnic often mirrored natural objects such as flowers and animals.
